I agree Southampton put on a good and dignified VJ celebration. Im not so sure what freedom of the city means for the QM2 filipino crew as their pay and working conditions are a disgrace and akin to somthing out out of the victorian workhouse era. They have no contractual rights or working condidtions and can be sacked on mass at the hint of any dissent. This country should really do somthing about this issue as its nothing short of slave labour.I put the blame squarely on the past tory government and Thatcher when she broke up and re-flagged the British Merchant fleet.

Mary Fagan surely - not Fagin

Yes - Fagan - I stand corrected.

There goes Paranoia Sowerby again.P&O,Cunard are both in private ownership and now part of Carnival Corp.Neither the Conservatives nor Margaret Thatcher had anything to do with it.

Wrong again tory boy. I was the Thatcher government that was responsible for the demise of the british merchant fleet. My point was In 1807 William Wilberforce abolished the slave ship trade dispite violent opposition from the house of lords, and they are now back in the disguise as cruise ships. I feel that all cruise ships operating from european ports like ours with foreign crews should come under the EU working time directive and crew members should be paid at least the minimum wage.

Peter would be suited to working on the Titanic. Like his party, he is sinking fast.

Clive your mindless babble and rants has prompted me to get my old guitar out again. I sang too verses of the old leadbelly song. GO TO THE DEVIL AND I WILL DANCE OVER YOUR BONES.

Excellent! When I next go through Baddesley, I will have to put cotton wool into my ears. I'm sure the neighbours will start complaining soon.
