Gravatar I think driving accuracy is a bit of an overhyped stat. Sure, if you're in the trees or OB a lot, your driver can kill you. But if you can hit greens from the rough, you'll be just fine. The greens in reg top 30 list is much closer to the money list top 30 than the fairways hit top 30 list is this year--and most every year you check. So I doubt it's her driving that's the key thing keeping Gulbis from the winner's circle so far.

I have to admit I expected a great season from her this year. Given her hot start this season, I had picked her for my top 11 in 2007, but it's clear that injuries have been taking their toll on her game. I completely agree with you that rest is the best answer here.

It seems that a lot of the people who entered the tour in the late 1990s and early 2000s are dealing with nagging injuries. I wonder if all the extremely tough competition on the tour is putting pressure on people to enter more events than they normally would and play in pain more often, in hopes of avoiding getting passed. That's already happened to early-season top 10 money list players like Sarah Lee, Stacy Prammanasudh, and Meaghan Francella who are dealing with injuries now. It's an open question whether Mi Hyun Kim's knee will hold up (she said a few months ago she's been advised to have surgery on it). And that's probably just the tip of the iceberg.

Who would have thought golf was so dangerous?
