Per your link to the Caribbean entry on Wikipedia, it appears you missed this sentence: "The Caribbean ... is a region of the Americas consisting of the Caribbean Sea, its islands (most of which enclose the sea), and the surrounding coasts."

Note the last portion of the sentence. Its surrounding coasts. That includes the coast of Florida.

Hollywood, FL (where she died) is on the SE coast of Florida. Therefore, technically, Hollywood, FL is part of the Caribbean.

So, Steyn is not incorrect.
