I haven't tried a garter stitch variation, but I'm sure it would work quite well. I used kitchen cotton in the example pictured above so I could throw it in the washing machine. I'm interested in how a wool/garter stitch combination will work out, please keep me updated!

You know Michelle, I happen to have some cotton and may use that instead so I can throw it in the washing machine too!

What an excellent idea! The replacements can get to be expensive. I've already stopped buying the cleaning solution and simply substituted watered-down Pine Sol.

I think this is an awesome idea - buying refills can be a pain, aside from the fact that is would increase your grocery budget. I'm gonna try this one out.

I try to save money where I can and I am a big fan of Swifter type mops. But the refills are very expensive, so apart from devising our own cheaper cleaning solution I think this knit mop refill pattern is good.

I don't knit, but I like the idea of a re-usable, washable cover like this. If you decide to make a few, maybe you can sell me one! :-D

That is too funny! But, actually I think it is a goodi idea. I particularly like your suggestion of using a garter stitch and think that probably would improve the dust catching. I just wonder how durable this would be knit in wool?

The funny thing is, I already do this. Instead of knitting it by hand and spending that much time, I just use old rags and cloth which has worn out. It works like a charm, and costs little to nothing.

It’s a great idea to save some of the pennies from the hard earned money. I am surely going to do so.

Isn't it called Swiffer? (no T) Those refills cost a fortune too. Love your patt but you'd get more hits if you fixed the spelling. Just an idea. Feel free to ignore. ;-}

I love this idea! Not only is it economical, but there's no trash ultimately being pitched in the bin. Looks much prettier too!
