Gravatar Wow. Glen, that is really excellent.
What is your thumbnail prediction for the twenty-first century, then?
As a scientist, I feel science is already under attack, the Bioethics Council, ID battling for equal time with evolution in the school systems, hbd denial everywhere (because it is not PC). Embryonic stem cell research and hbd studies could be yeilding important results for the quality of human life. We can genetically engineer food stocks, but even the most starving third world county won't accept it. Perhaps, instead of being suspicious of science, we should be suspicious of politics.

Gravatar jinnderella -

I commented on some of the GM foods issues at WoT, in A.L.'s post "Good Stuff - from the Nation?"

But I'm optimistic, because I have lots of confidence in science, and no confidence at all in Luddites.

Gravatar Great stuff, Glen. This one deserves a link.

Gravatar You might want to extend these comments to the arena of sexuality.

I often hear leftists saying (although they don't know it): "If it only weren't for those nasty Republicans/evangelicals, etc., I'd have a great sex life."

Sexual love is regarded among leftists as an asset controlled by the state. Those who fail or find themselves loveless are, thus, victims of a deliberate plot by the state. Thus, the politicization of the most personal elements of our lives.

At its most extreme, this is the engine behind the demand for gay marriage.

Hand them the phonebook and tell them to look under "E" for escorts.

Gravatar Hey, I'm commenting on the blog of a Right Wing swamp thing! I guess the first thing that occurs to me is that one reason for the political pathologies of modern times is simply that the world became incredibly complicated and hard to understand, more intellectually insecure & therefore frightening. Another are some ideas from Richard Feynman. Feynman said that there were two great heritages of Western Civilization. The first was Judeo-Christian ethics of love brotherhood, equality: the humility of the Spirit. The second was science, the system of tentative hypotheses which might be wrong, tested by evidence: the humility of the Intellect. And the good, well-meaning people who have done the most damage in this century are those who were just a little too sure of themselves that they were right and their opponents, both foreign & domestic, wrong; that they were good and their opponents, both foreign & domestic, bad. So I am more disposed to look at people like Marx more as deluded,
