Gravatar Your writing is too well thought out and felicitously expressed to be confined to a blog. Have you written any books? If not, why not?

Gravatar Jim - Thanks. No, I haven't published any books, but I am writing one. In fact, I'm writing two books ... maybe three. I plan to excerpt some of them here in the future.

Gravatar I agree with Jim-- Glen, you are so excellent!
However, I do not agree with YOU on this!
1) Right now we are raging along the path to end aging and extend useful lifespan-- (ok, there are a few speed bumps) population pressure and ennui are going to push space travel, colonization and exploration to the forefront of our requirements.
2) Wormholes will enable faster than light travel, and possibly even time travel!

Gravatar jinnderella -

So you are optimistic about the possibility of interstellar travel, which is described in Future #2. Are you optimistic about the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life as well?

What if we go there and there's nothing? On the other hand (Future #1), what if galactic civilization is buzzing around us as we speak, and we're missing out?

Gravatar What future population pressure? Longer life span will diminish the need for children, especially in the present Third World.

Gravatar Glen, i'm working up the probability of intelligent life post-- i'll prob'ly post it at gnxp proper, since we're also arguing about alien intelligences vs supernatural operators in ::shudder:: Intelligent Design.
I'll hattip you, 'cause you started the discussion with The Two Futures-- Oh, and fermi's paradox that razib brought up is nonsense! It is way underparameterized!

And, i'm optimistic about everything-- it is my nature!

Gravatar Fermi's paradox restated: If they're out there, why haven't they put up a blog?

But I agree that Fermi's paradox doesn't really prove anything, for reasons described in Future #1 - "They" could be there, but unaware of us, or otherwise out of our reach.
