Gravatar Daddy I miss you, give Uncle Henry a kiss for me!

Gravatar Tim Bellows’ Soundlinks exercise for the ultimate workout for poets:

In this, we use no plain rhyme, as in link/ink…knees/please…and so on.
Instead match other sounds within the words. Poets like Roethke have class and know how to resonate words together with slant rhyme, alliteration, assonance, consonance – and more.

Do your Soundlinks drill often, listing words in rows of three – and working only off similar sounds, but avoiding rhyme. Okay, here we go with an example:

forget antigen netted
tendentious indented element
lemon monocle muscle
musty team mealtime
mighty teats seated
seamless lemons monstrous
stressful essence Zen
henchmen inches chest
Excedrin dressy sendoff
offences fend effeminate
minty tinned inky

---do this often to build your ear for a poetry that will speak singingly!---
