"Cheers" episode, the bar gets a new television. No one can figure out how to work the remote.
I may be wrong on which character says the following lines, but I think it's like this:
Norm: How do you work this remote?
Cliff: (picks up a second remote) Oh, you need this remote to work that remote.
Yep, and that's exactly how it should be. Viva le Remotes!

Well, if we compare "asking for direction" to sexualty, here is the idea: men not asking for directions, is the same as with sex - they don't ask because they feel threatened by appearing inadequate (i.e., don't ask how to "do it" right with the NEW girlfriend because it will challenge his sense of self to admit he doesn't already know how to please every woman on the planet). On the other hand, a woman asks for directions as a way to hint to the man that he SHOULD BE ASKING HER the same thing!!! Get it??

You hit the nail on the head! When picking up my sister one year for Christmas vacation, I actually found the Greyhound bus station in Kansas City WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING THE ADDRESS much less without a map! Great fun!
Unfortunately I had forgotten that Greyhound was on strike and I did have to stop and find the address for the Continental Trailways station because it was getting late. :^0

Hey bluelovergirl, I've asked and often never get good directions, so I STILL have to drive around until I stumble across what pleases her!

WitNit I Know, this is because women are too careful with men's sense of inadequacy, so even if they do ask for directions, some women might say, "uh, well, its..uh..oh honey, its just fine!" She fears making him feel inadequate, of course at the expense of her own orgasm. He has to be willing to ask, and she has to be willing to answer.
