respectfully cinnabon,

when has being insane hindered a bid for the GOP nomination? have you watched the debate yet? he's the only one who's got that "stern father" thing.

up until now, nobody's LOVED mitt like some love rudy or mccain - nobody except for venture capitalist types that recognize emrom as one of their own. i think my man (he's 'my man' now?) has turned a corner on the charisma score.

and speaking of those debates...attention should be paid to tancredo. now THAT fucking guy is insane.

Gravatar I don't know. Those post-debate head-to-head poll numbers suck. A 37 point spread with Edwards? Both Giuliani and McCain, who have all sorts of baggage, poll better than EmRom, head-to-head and against the Ds. I don't think your GOP rank-and-filer can ever vote for someone from Massachusetts, especially one who's had as many "conversions" as Mitt when it came time to run for president.

Plus he's Mormon.

Plus his favorite book is "Battlefield Earth," and I'm fairly certain the only cultists that right-wing fundies hate more than Mormons are Scientologists.

BTW - check out this Glenn Greenwald piece on the Politico and the ties of its president and CEO to the GOP network. Something tells me they may have a vested interest in pushing the EmRom candidacy.

Gravatar Dammit, I didn't mean to hit publish. Your point about being insane not mattering is well-taken, hence my, um... love isn't quite the right word... fascination with Tancredo. But EmRom ain't crazy, he's just dumb.

Of course, George W. Bush...

Gravatar I've been on the Romney train for awhile now.

As long as we're having the "doesn't matter if they're insane" discussion, can we please get past the "that's not true, so therefore this guy can't win." Colbert makes a joke out of it, "truthiness," but it's real. What Romney said sounds as if it could be true to millions of people, and that's all that matters. Even if you could somehow prove to each and every last Republican that no where in France are they signing seven-year marriage contracts (I thought I had heard about this before), it doesn't matter, because it sounds like the kind of thing "liberals" would be in a favor, and Mitt is against it. He stands up for traditional marriage. Yay, Mitt!

It's great that Wobs will point this shit out to us, but let's not pretend accuracy will have anything to do with the election.

Gravatar I'm still not convinced EmRom can win the GOP nomination. He's got too much going against him right now and will blow through his war chest trying to convince the GOP base that he's "one of them."

Your point about accuracy not being a determining factor in elections is well-taken, though.

Incidentally, the closest thing I saw to Mitt's France reference was a recent liberalization of divorce law which stipulated that couples who had been separated for more than six years could apply for something akin to a common law divorce. Hardly the "no-commitment" marriage EmRom "heard" about.
