This video shows a clear misunderstanding of the problems that this country faces. How about we fight to solve the problems at home instead of those abroad. This war was not sold to us as a way to save the Iraqi people, it was sold to us as a way to save the People of the USA. The lies that led us to this war were to make us believe that there were wmd's that could harm us. We were never told that we were going there to save Iraq. I support our troops, not Bush and his lies. The God bless the USA song is just propaganda used to pull on heart strings. The words are God bless the USA, not God bless Iraq. That song was written for the people of this country and the victims of 9-11. Stop selling out our people in support of the republican greed. Robert Pancoast

Robert:
Thanks for your comment. But if I may, you are wrong. The fact that this public relations inept administration has not explained the facts adequately does not change the facts. I have been frustrated beyond belief that they let the media frame the debate. But the issue of WMD and Saddam's complicity was settled years ago. Read my December 2005 post "Bush Lied, People Died" for the full story. Almost no one has told it. To our perennial detriment.

If Saddam was involved in 9-11, the President would be screaming the facts as loud as he could. We were told Saddam had wmd's and that was not true. The media is only as liberal as the large conservative corporations that own it. I work my tail off every day and can not afford to go to the dentist to get my sore tooth pulled. I only can get health insurance through my employer because I have pre-existing conditions. Bush is the worst president in my 40 years. We are in far worst shape than we were 8 years ago. The republicans had complete control for 6 years and spent us into a huge hole. Bush did not veto a single spending bill in his first term. The only people that benefitted from the last 8 years are greedy corporate C.E.O.'s. The average American is screwed right now. We need real change, not the same old supply side economics. The bail out did not pass because the republicans did not vote for it, and McCain blames it on Obama and the dems. Nice lie. The republicans blame it on Pelosi because she hurt there feelings. Country first for the republicans huh? Do I need to bring up the huricane Katrina fiasco that Bush and company botched so badly? Sorry if your taxes go up, I need the tax break. If I start making $250,000 a year, maybe I'll change my mind. No more tax breaks for the filthy rich. Robert Pancoast

Wrong again. The filthy rich already pay almost half the taxes. The top 50% in this country pay 96%. If you are in the bottom half you are paying 4% or less.
Agree that Bush and republicans allowed free spending, as the dems have done for 50 years. Clinton got his surpluses because of Republican spending restraint. But there is no excuse for their profligate spending in the 00s.
Read the item on Saddam. Did you? Those are the facts. Conservative corporations do not edit the nightly news. Hard core leftists do. Look it up.

Joe,
No offense, but you did not address any points that I made. I do not wish to see anyones taxes raised, I just would like to see all of the loopholes closed that allow huge corporations to skirt taxes. I know some well to do folks that get screwed by taxes and I do not agree that they should have topay 40-50% taxes on their earnings. It is the top .1% wealthiest people that pay the majority of our taxes, and they can well afford it.
I read your blog about saddam, and I could find another that spells out very clearly how 9-11 was an U.S Govt. inside job. I do not believe that either.
I do not understand why you portray liberal politics as evil. Compassion is not evil. I am not religious, but I know that Jesus was liberal. Was he evil? He never would condone war of any kind. I am pro- choice. I believe that all people have the right to marry, gay or straight. I support the war in Afghanistan, but not in Iraq. I think that our country would be stronger with a healthy, educated populace.
Health care reform is essential, with regulations on the pharmacutical industry. I went to pick up a presription when my health coverage was temporarily suspended. The tab was $400. I waited until my insurance was re-instated, the tab was $40. Rip-off. Government is way to big, but the right wing wants to get involved in who marries who, abortion, and many other things that they should stay out of. The Govt. should only be concerned with the protection of the populace of the U.S.A.
Why does the right wing care about marriage, etc? Because the church is up their ass. I am a firm believer in the separation of church and state, so the Govt. should stay out of marriage altogether.
I am a certified journeyman electrician, and a highly skilled trained chef. I have worked my butt off all of my life and still can not make ends meet. The corporate C.E.O makes 100 times what I do, and after he destroys his company and our investments, he gets a multi-million dollar golden parachute. The company that jumps through hoops to avoid taxes then turns around and asks for a big fat welfare handout. Hipocracy at its best.
Your motor voter comments are very amusing as well. Why do you not want every citizen to vote? Are you scared that their choice may be different than yours? By the way, Bush got elected after that was passed. Also, the florida presidential vote fiasco was a total sham. Talk about voter fraud.
John Kerry may have written his medals, although that was a shameful distortion of the facts, but where was George Bush while Kerry was fighting in Nam? He was dodging the draft, and partying like a rock star. Not one person came to his defense to say that they served with him. They call it swift boat politics for a reason.
Stop with the propaganda.
Finally, I do not have any more time to write you as I am way to busy trying to support my family.
Thanks, Robert Pancoast

Sorry Robert. No can do. I come at those issues with the same interest as you. How arrogant is it of anyone to accuse me of not being "compassionate" simply because I understand the difference between gestures and facts?
The facts are these: Government run health care systems FAIL EVERY TIME. It may take a few years for the cracks to show, but they always do, because it is an economic impossibility for them to do otherwise. I taught economics. I am not making this up. Britain's healthcare system is an abject failure and costs the average Briton more in taxes than you pay in insurance premiums.
Liberal policies inevitably fail because the present the government as a solution. I have worked in the heart of government, in one of the most prestigious, motivated, principled organizations there. We were glorified paper shufflers. No good idea went unpunished. The incentives facing government managers have little to do with the mission, unfortunately. DO you think I would not like to believe otherwise? I would LOVE to. I wouldn't have left!
I also personally know one of the Congressional Medal of Honor winners who spent years as a POW while Kerry disingenuously smeared American troops in Vietnam. IT was a disgraceful, treasonous act, for which he never got his just desserts. His entire Navy career was planned for him by the Kennedy clan. He found himself, due to a bureacratic snafu, in combat areas for 1.5 months, and complained incessantly until he was removed. He is a consummate liar and traitor. If he happened to find himself in the middle of a firefight, it was through no fault of his own. Bush flew aging fighters for two years, a dangerous occupation in the best of times. Your claim that he avoided it is part of the CBS borne invention that has been proven irrefutably to be a fraud.

Joe,
I did not ask for govt. run health care. I said regulation and reform. I thought you could read. I have a friend who is a liberal hippie, He is constantly telling me about these great conspiracies perpatrated by the U.S govt. I laugh at him.
I did not say that you were not compassionate, I accused you of calling liberal politics evil. Such a smart guy you are. My hippie friend I laugh at, you I just think are an ass.

It's Jim, not Joe, and I guess after a confusing rant you expect me to untangle all your logical nonsequiters and false statements?
I get nothing for writing these posts except the satisfaction that I am doing my part to set the record straight. I spend hours evaluating sources and making sure I am standing on solid ground before I make a statement. If you cannot separate extensively resourced facts from 9-11 conspiracy theories, then I think there is no hope for you. Finally, yes, most liberal policy is evil. It results in the mess we have today. The toxic popular is saturated with liberal misinformation and sick ideas. It matters little that the purveyors intentions may be good.
These past six years we have not been attacked. I credit Bush's strategy of taking the fight to the enemy over there as being a large part of that reason. These six years YOUR taxes were lower than they would have been. If Obama is elected YOUR taxes will increase. His policies will guarantee that our economy, teetering on the edge of the abyss because of Democrat screwing with the private market, will tumble right over the edge. BTW, one of the CEOs to blame for this fiasco, getting a $200 million golden parachute, is Obama economic adviser Frank Raines, who was fined $3 million for cooking Fannie Mae books so he could get a $20 million bonus by overstating their profits. Don't here the Dems talking about that too much. Is that not evil?
And when it's all over you retreat to the standard leftist tactic of the ad hominem attack. Have you heard of that word? Look it up! Small, very small.

Jim, JOe, Whoever,
It was you who called me arrogant befor I replied in a negative fashion. Bush and Cheyneys war is evil. How will my taxes increase if his plan is to lower taxes for those making under $150,00 a year.
Palin was terrible last night. She showed her lack of understanding on many issues by constantly going back to energy. Biden proved to be much more knowledgable and even the republican pundits admitted as much.
Why is the soldier in the video not in uniform, and why did he not state his name , rank, outfit or what line of service he was in?
Another good one is your letter from "Billy".Not only does an 8 year old not understand politics, but he is most likely repeating what his Daddy said. And why would an adult listen to an 8 year old anyway?
I am sure the economic situation we are in is all the Dems fault, and the republicans were totally innocent. Just look at the lies that caused the false energy crisis in CA, or the origional cooking of the books that caused the worldcom or Enron collapse.
Enron in particular was a Bush crony.
Thats it. I am done. I will not reply again.

Are you questioning the soldier's authenticity? Why don't you ask him why he didn't offer that information? I don't think he needs to. Others post on this site. I have no idea what 8 year old's letter you refer to.
Barack Obama will raise your taxes. Bill promised a middle class tax cut too, remember? What happened to that? He instead pushed through the largest tax increase in decades. On fundamental issues the Dems disagree with, like lowering taxes, they will talk the talk but since Kennedy, never walk the walk.
You are also wrong about Enron. Lay was very close to Clinton and after G.W. Bush was elected, used Robert Rubin to attempt to influence the White House, but got nowhere.
I quote Wikipedia:
He [Rubin] sparked controversy in 2001 when he contacted an acquaintance at the Treasury Department and asked if the department could convince bond-rating agencies not to downgrade the corporate debt of Enron, a debtor of Citigroup. Rubin wanted Enron creditors to lend money to the troubled company for a restructuring of its debt; a collapse of the energy giant might have serious consequences for financial markets and energy distribution. The Treasury official refused. A subsequent congressional staff investigation cleared Rubin of any wrongdoing, but he was still harshly criticized by political opponents.
Further, I never said the Republicans didn't share some of the blame. As controllers of both houses until 2006, they shouldn't have allowed themselves to be rolled by the Dems. But they were, repeatedly. But this crisis is the result of Democrat politics, i.e. using government to provide free bennies to reliable voting blocks.
