Jim, this nails it. Right now in Iraq, Sunni Ba'athists are battling other Sunnis for power. Many have sided with al-Qaeda in Iraq, but are beginning to notice that their neighbors aren't too happy with al-Qaeda killing the next door neighbors, and not at all happy that Ba'athists are supporting al-Qaeda.
It's very interesting to turn the whole argument around to: Bremer not going deep enough in his ousters, or as you said - too soft.
I think I'll pick up a couple of the books mentioned in the Laurie Mylorie link.
