Wonko`s World

We where both born in England and agree that we are not British but English citizens. Irish can be called Irish, Scotish can be called Scotish, Welsh can be called Welsh. So why can we ENGLISH not be called ENGLISH! We are English and proud to be English any-one can be British.
Two English Ladys

Very true artical!!!
I am very proud to be English! Born and bread in Preston, England, i have never classed myself as a British citizen, i am English always have and always will be a proud ENGLISH citizen!
ENGLISH and Proud!!!

Gravatar Unfortinately, Englishness is being wiped out by this racist British government.

Gravatar Would it be an idea to ask these government chappies if they are happy to do away with Welshness and Scotishness too? I think they may be less willing to offend our fellow Brits!

Gravatar Oh no, you can't do that. That would be racist. It's only permissible to insult and discriminate against English people.

Gravatar Hi Stuart,
can you give me the email address for the Nationality Office please, as I would like to ask them the same question.
I'm on answerbank, and said that you were now no longer allowed to say your English, and been taken to task for it, I copied and pasted your blog to it, but I would also like to put a reply from them to me on it,
Thanks.
Paul.

Gravatar you morons need to learn how to spell properly if you want your opinions to be taken seriously.

Gravatar You are clever. In a few years you will have rattled off communications backwards and forwards and then one day, after loads of bureaucracy they will say that you can actually put your nationality as English. Then the world will be a completely different place and you can sit easy knowing that time and money that could be spent on education/transport/hospitals/etc has been spent on rubber stamping your right to change a few letters on your passport. Bravo. A worthy cause.

Gravatar I'm a bit confused by the replies you got. There is NO such thing as a "British national". There IS such a thing as a British citizen. Britain is made up of 4 nations (actually just 2, and Wales & N. Ireland are technically a Principality and a province respectively).
My nationality is English. My citizenship is British and (also now) European. Why does the UK passport not answer the question when it asks "nationality"? It is the only passport I know that doesn't answer the question - it states my citizenship instead. If it's going to do that, why not write "European citizen"? After all, the UK and EU are both just political unions. My country remains England and my nationality, by fact, certainly does too. Whatwever the passport office may say. he should read the book given to new immegrants here, which sets this out very clearly.

Gravatar I was after a definition of English and stirred a hornets nest. My Father and Mother were French but I was born in London. Possibly this is why the Government refuse to accept a day for England, St.Georges day as do the other members of the United Kingdom. People born elsewhere with foreign parents,in my opinon cannot claim to be English. I feel English and served in the Army, so feel I am entitled to call myself English, am I wrong??

Gravatar My local authority (Mid Suffolk) have told me to-day that there is no "English" nationality. I queried the Voters Registration form which had British printed against all household occupants. That was the reply I got when I queried it.
I reminded tham that when the last census was held, people were allowed to put Scottish or Welsh and that no provision had been made for "English" After a lot of protest it was changed so that people could put Englis;
If there is no England, how come we have a flag, The english National Opera, English Heritage etc etc.
Wake up English people, make your voice heard.

Gravatar I work for the NHS and they provide stats about nationality of patients which includes English. On my recent validation of personal details it says that as a member of staff you cannot be English! How confused they are and I think I am going to start using the racism card. Can't wait for the bantering.
