What's frightening is the potential spread of the conflict to involve Syria and Iran and, ultimately, Russia and China.

Yes, you're right. Iran has pledged to support Syria if (when) Israel has a pop at them. Israel has bitten off more than it can chew this time I think, only the Americans can save them.

I don't hate Jews, I just don't agree with Israeli terrorists dressed up as soldiers and politicians breaking international law and not only getting away with it but being helped.
In your example, also add in the scenario that what is now England was, until a couple of decades ago, Ireland. It had been Ireland for 2,000 years and then suddenly a group of foreigners decided that the English had a valid claim to half of your country because a book says they lived there 2,000 years ago. The Irish, along with their Scottish and Welsh allies, were opposed to England being created inside Ireland and pledged to fight it. Despite this pledge, the foreign powers still went ahead and partitioned Ireland, taking homes, farms and businesses that had been in Irish families' hands for over 2,000 years and giving them to the English.
The Irish, Scots and Welsh attack England as soon as the foreign powers that created it had left as they had promised to do. The Americans step in and give the English nuclear weapons, helicopter gunships, machine guns and tanks that are vastly superior to the weapons that the Irish, Scots and Welsh have. The English then use those weapons in "self defence" to occupy the whole Ireland, North Wales and the Scottish Lowlands. They then go on to occupy London which was designated as an international city under UN mandate and part of no country.
Over the next 40 or 50 years, the UN issue 100's of resolutions demanding England withdraw from the Scottish Lowlands, North Wales, London and Ireland. The Americans veto most resolutions and continue to supply weapons to the English to enable them to continue the occupation.
The English agree to let the Irish have their own government and security forces ont he condition they deal with the IRA but at every opportunity they destroy roads, power stations and communications lines to prevent the government and security forces from functioning and then use that inabilitity to deal with the IRA as justification for further incursions into Ireland.
Finally, they build a big wall across the top of Hadrians Wall, Offas Dyke and the NI/RoI border to keep the IRA out. It means that they still keep half of the territory they have illegally occupied for the last few decades. The English still control all land and sea borders and they also control the air space. Ireland is effectively cut off from the rest of the world and reliant on international aid which, since Sinn Fein were elected in free and fair elections, the English have with-held.
Your little story doesn't look quite so rosy for the Israeli's now does it you Arab hating scumbag?

Wonko,
What would you think if "North British militants" crossed the border into into England and kidnapped two soldiers?
Now substitute Hezbollah and Israel into that sentence. What Hezbollah did was an act of war, Lebanese Government sanctioned or not.
The other Israeli, kidnapped by Hamas, was also taken on the israeli side of the border with Gaza. Another act of war.
So you'd ignore border incursions, kidnapping of your soldiers? Not to mention the hundreds of rockets being fired into Israel...
I think you're being very selective in what you "object" to.

nbc, the militants aren't the government of either of those countries. How can a terrorist organisation declare war on a country? They don't represent a country and they have no country or army to declare war with. If the Lebanese government had sent troops over the border then yes, that would be an act of war, but they were militants, not the Lebanese government. Israel, meanwhile, has crossed the border into Lebanon which is an act of war.
I'm not being selective in what I object to, I am simply looking at the facts and the fact is that Israel is attacking Lebanon in retaliation for the actions of terrorists.

So Hezbollah members in ministerial posts in the Lebanese Government are irrelevant? And Hamas? Well they are most definitely a terrorist organisation who are also the elected Government.
Claiming that local forces on the ground are not under the control of the respective Government is their problem, not the israelis'.
As has been frequently seen with US and UK forces in Iraq. Any suspicion of illegality is investigated thoroughly. So please let me know when the Lebanese get a grip of the rocket crews in S Lebanon.
Even the Irish got involved when PIRA were lobbing mortars over the border.
I suspect that the Lebanese and Palestinian Governments are allowing the rockets to be fired. They must also be complicit in allowing the Iranian rockets into the country.

Hey, "nbc," I suspect you are a fucking moron. I also suspect you haven't a clue about the political situation either within Lebanon or between Lebanon and its neighbours.
"The Lebanese and Palestinian governments are allowing the rockets to be fired [and are] complicit in allowing the Iranian rockets into the country"?
Get real.

It always turns out that way.
Those guys are deeply paranoid, fear and/or guilt...
You'll never get to any point discussing with'em.
Supposing this idea of promised land can be assumed relevant in 2008, it was promised to all the children of Abraham.. not only the allmighty jews.
They quite often resort to insulting people too
