Pathetic isn't it? Israel can go round creating whatever mayhem they like and no one says jack to them. What worries me is they have the nuclear deterent - and do you think they'll be waiting round for permission from Washington to use it?
I notice our glorious leader fell in behind Bush again..... Bush's declaration that because they had 2 soldiers kidnapped in Lebanon that gave them some sort of moral justification to go in and taget civilians was just gobsmacking. Two months ago, 2 USA soldiers were kidnapped in Baghdad. America searched for them in the suburbs where they thought they were - but did not blitz the place to kingdom come....
The Middle East will never get sorted until America start to learn how to become even handed - and actually concede that the Palastinians have been dealt a bum hand. It is not up to Israel to give crap land to Palastinians and take whatever land they like as a settlement. They seem tto be impervious to any criticism - however mild.
This was always going to be a powder keg - ever since the (Arthur) Balfour Declaration in the early twenties when he declared that the Jewish people should be given a homeland......
Well that was all very well Arthur, but that meant someone had to give up their land - whether they wanted to or not.
Fast forward to the mid 40's just after the 2nd World War had finished - and understandably, the World felt an obligation to create Israel. They divided up Palastine into 2 countries - and told the Palastinians that it had all been decided to do so. Understandably, the Palastinians did not agree, one day they had 100% of their land, the next day just 50% - they fought and lost the lot. Meanwhile, the Stern gang under future PM Begin were busily hanging British soldiers trying to keep the peace during the Mandate.......
I think Israel's violent birth has fixed in their psyche - they shoot first and don't even bother with any questions....
Israel have to accept that they must negotiate a meaningful settlement. That means thinking the unthinkable - giving up the West Bank. Only by the Palestinians being given a meanigful piece of land - and comparable financial support from America will see the extremists being marginalised.
The ironic thing about all this is that, in the fight for their own state, early Israeli militants used the type of tactics against the British that would today be considered terrorism.
Perhaps the best bet would be to totaly destroy the middle east.
