"TRUST NO ONE"

I am also a life member of the NRA. I used to write and email regularly to give my input. Kudos when they did a good job and complaints when they didn't fulfill my expectations.
After my most recent "suggestion" to them was responded to with a non-communicative form letter, I got fed up and told them that if they failed to answer my questions and adequately address my concerns that they may as well stop sending me any promotional materials or pleas for donations because I would no longer be financially supporting them.
Their response (paraphrased):
"Thanks for asking us to remove you from our mailing lists, it will save us money knowing that we don't need to send you solicitations."
Hows that for an organization concerned with their member's input? They wouldn't even TRY to justify their actions or PRETEND to care about my concerns.
I won't cancel my life membership because I paid for it and I seriously doubt that I could count on a refund, but they will never get another penny from me or mine (I was considering purchasing life memberships for my kids as Christmas presents...I guess GOA will be getting a couple of new life members).

The NRA slows the erosion of gun rights but doesn't do a whole lot to erase bad laws.
I do give them kudos for pushing against renewal of the AWB but that was written in to the bill.
I have received a few personal responses from the NRA. Most of them answered my question but this was three or four years ago and my queries were not too difficult.

Here in California we have our work cut-out for us, and while my club get's some financial assistance from the local NRA Members Council (for out Youth program - a quid-pro-quo), the real and very necessary legislative gun-support work comes from the California Rifle and Pistol Assn. (I'm a life-member) and Gun Owners of California - not the NRA.

WP and I know that the NRA was asked in writing about working to repeal the GCA of 1968 and the NFA of 1939. Their response, in writing, was they had no intention of doing so. Took a while to figure our, like their sudden backing away from the disbandment of ATF after Ruby Ridge, the NRA wanted propaganda material for their money machine.

Hammer,
That is the problem they do NOT work to REPEAL bad laws (besides assisting in writing such bad laws to begin with).
DirtCrashr,
The TSRA has become a NRA lackey.
CSMK- yup.

I was reading the December 1945
issue of American Rifleman today.
There was letter expressing concern about some of the M1 carbines having 17.75 inch barrels and therefore being under the NFA 34
The NRA responded with:
What does it matter? The Carbine has no sporting purpose anyway..
This has been one of the main problems with the NRA leadership in my opinion. Giving ground throughout the years because the laws didn't affect affect hunters or target shooters

Hammer,
That is a great point, would really like to see that page scanned because the most important thing that needs to be remembered is WHO helped push the 1934 NFA into law.
I point you to here:

And especially here:
http://www.seark.net/~jlove/
ches...chesley_nra.htm
You scan it and tell me where to download it (or E-mail it to me), and I will give it a permanent spot on the blog and site.
Thanks again!
