Don't Be An Asshole

Gravatar The memory hole, once more.

The military is saying that the big push in Mosul is to clear al Qaeda out of its "last stand" in Iraq. I guess nobody remembers that Mosul was already declared pacified -- it just so happens that Mosul was Petraeus's big success story when he was a mere regional commander, and it was on the strength of that inspiring conquest that he got his present job. You won't hear anybody point this out in the corporate media, of course.

Meanwhile, all you have to do is look at the top of today's post and see for yourself that the continual, unquestioned line that has to get inserted into every story, about how Baghdad is all peaceful now, we've chased the bad guys out and we're hunting them down in their final northern redoubts, is total, unmitigated bullshit.

Gravatar That's almost the exact same story since the last Fallujah battle. The allies (axis?) does a sweep or a push and the insurgents disappear with only a token resistance. Then the appear elsewhere. This will continue until the insurgents get beaten down or exhausted or we have troops in every region in enough numbers to control the discontent.
And that's the exact argument that the Chicago Tribune is making is the article entitled "More GI's to stay in Iraq?" It hints that the expected American troop drawdown this summer will never come to be and we will continue current troop levels until the Idiot leaves office. The Herald Tribune has a similar write up.
