The finished sock looks fabulous, but I would be tempted to try something new. I find it hard not to stray a little with my knitting.

Wow! I like the sock -- now I want to cast on for some fair isle socks.... It's a hard choice -- sock or not, hmmm!

Those stripes are truly awesome. Tempting, tempting.
I'm going to advise you not to head down the primrose path of the single sock. Otherwise you'll end up like me with 6 of them that need mates!

Could you work on two things at once--i.e., alternate mitten and sock? That way you get the satisfaction of casting on for something new w/o losing the momentum from sock 1.

Well since I never knit my second Sigrid, I'm not about to tell you not to cast on a mitten!

Why not knit both at once? I'm usually a monogamous knitter, and finish one project completely before starting the next. But lately I've been trying alternating between two projects, and it's been more fun than just one at a time. If you do both, your sock will not be abandoned in a mate-less state, and your needles won't be sulky about not knitting mittens. Best of both worlds, no? =)

Oh knit the second sock. You don't want to turn into me and have sock scattered about for months with no mates. It is such a headache (says she trying to figure out what size needles she used on a sock 7 months ago...).

I think my brain must work the same way that yours does because setting the sock aside seems to me like an invitation for all hell to break lose. It could just end up sitting there for goodness knows how long and who wants that?!?! Maybe you can compromise and have the sock as your home project and something else as your work/out and about project.

Hold the socks and mitten it up!! I have 2 lonely socks in my basket that have been waiting for a mate for over 6 months. It's not that I don't love them it's just that my scrapbooking and cross stitch and an afghan got in the way.
The sock can wait a bit.

If your needles are itching for mittens, by all means cast on! Knowing you, the single sock won't languish in the WIP basket for too long.

New project! New project! New project! Just kidding but I thought it needed to be said! The sock is absolutely lovely. Frankly, I would probably finish it while you still like it. Once the love is gone, it is so, so hard to go back to singles.

you make such beautiful socks! i don't know if i have the patience to do colorwork on DPNs because there is always a gap between needles. do you use DPNs or magic loop or two circulars?

Gleek and I are contemplating never knitting a 2nd sock again, and instead knitting each other's 2nd socks from now on. I think this is a great solution! Only you'll have to find someone who likes a bit of fair isle.

I really like the striped motif on the heel and bottom!
Hrm. If it were me, I'd probably take a break to knit a mitt-- then return to the sock!

Definitely wait! By the time you get back to it, the sock will feel fresh and exciting again.
Beautiful job on the first one!

Go ahead and start something else? This one can wait, and you can finish it later.... it's a very very pretty sock.
