I would say that Yitzchak's opinion of Obama is representative of hardline Zionists, but not of American Jewry in general.
Hardline Zionists tend to judge all people by what they think about Israel. Since Obama's protestations of love for Israel are viewed as hypocritical (rightly so, because he took that stance out of fear of the Israel lobby), hardline Zionists rush to smear him regardless of what his views may be on any other issue.
That notwithstanding, 70% of American Jews will vote for Obama. There, Tarik, you can confirm that there is indeed an abyss between the concepts of Judaism and Zionism.

Since you consider anyone who supports Israel to be a "Zionist," then this describes most American Jews. My religious Orthodoxy and Republican leanings put me in the minority of American Jews. I don't know about that "abyss." It depends on what type of Zionism you mean. I consider "Religious Zionism" to be an acceptable interpretation of Judaism although it isn't my movement.
Well, my definition of a Zionist is someone who can vote for a very dangerous warmongering candidate provided he's a staunch supporter of Israel.
To its credit, the Jewish community won't vote for that candidate.
