You see, I'm right.
This is the thing that really annoys me about vegetarians, I'm actually quite happy for people to be veggy.
I'm happy if they want to be a muslim, or a vegan, or an S&M freak, or a Man United fan, or if they want to spend all their free time listening to Chas and Dave, but just don't try to force it on me.
I have hardly ever met a vegetarian who doesn't want the whole world to be the same as them, think like them, act like them, don't stand out!
I have an opinion, and you can take it or leave it, and I'm happy either way.
But that's not enough for the vegetarian nazi movement, they won't be happy, they've got their opinion, and everyone must follow it, or else.

Actually both my father and my sister are veggies but don't want others to be.
However, the rest of what you're saying here is spot on. Has it anything to do with the amount of time that Labour have been in power now?

as i think i've told you before in comments, i'm a veggie as is my wife and my ex-wife (and an ex-girlfriend and an ex-work colleague/molecular biologist). none of the above are prosletising veggies. i'm sorry that you think that all veggies want to ban meat. i think you are misinformed. sure there are fringes that want to ban this, that and the other. but, i would guess that most veggies are simple folk like me who have made up their own minds, but realise it's a personal choice.
i gave up meat because i never liked the taste and i was disgusted when i saw animal husbandry in action. but, it was a personal choice. if you or anyone else wants to eat shit encrusted animal remains then that's your funeral (ha, ha - that's a joke).
regarding hunting with dogs - i realise that i won't convince you on this one either. but, i do strenuously object to what i think is barabarity - just like bear baiting and other medieval "entertainments". i do not beleive that th

part 2---
regarding hunting with dogs - i realise that i won't convince you on this one either. but, i do strenuously object to what i think is barabarity - just like bear baiting and other medieval "entertainments". i do not beleive that this is a case of townies dictating to country folk and i think it is ludicrous to suggest that this is a decimation of country life. as much as bear baiting was a townie past-time.
dr p has got it half right. it does have something to do with labour as a bill to ban hunting with dogs has been in the party policy for many years. but, remember, this was subject to a free vote and many labour mps - including townie kate hoey - vote against the ban. the commons is supposed to reflect the will of the people and - to use an outdated word - society. i think that has been reflected by the ban.

part 3--
but - and i hope you've read this far - you have put your finger on a very important social issue. that is the destruction of rural society in britain. that's been an inexorable decline, hastened by the motor car and other trappings of the modern world. my brother lives in a rural setting, but it is in danger of becoming just another suburban enclave as progress marches on.
i don't know the answer to this conundrum, but i certainly do not think that the answer is the restoration of hunting with dogs.

part 4---
as to your list of what to ban next - none of the above are my hobbies. i do like to watch rugby, but i've never played it and do not have the intention to do so. we can discuss the cruelty of greyhound racing at another point if you like.
first victory? no. i don't see this as any kind of victory. i'm glad that the ban has come about. i hope it will be enforced with common sense. but, the arguments won't go away for some time.

Haloscan crap ? bugger, I switched to this because everyone complained about blogger comments.
Pete, you've made a whole heap of good and reasoned arguments there, I would disagree with one or two points.
"many labour mps, vote against the ban" - I bet there weren't that many, a handful may be a more accurate description.
"the commons is supposed to reflect the will of the people " - it is, but we all know it rarely works that way (example - Iraq) and it is far from certain that a majority of the public wanted an outright ban.
"none of the above are prosletising veggies." - maybe it's just the ones I meet, but the loons from PETA (remember their nasty PR stunt with murderer Armin Meiwes ?) and their anti and sab friends I'm willing to bet are militant veggies to the last who won't be happy until we're all munching tofu burgers.

i understand blogger comments are now "improved".
thanks for your response. point taken about iraq, but hunting was a free vote; iraq was not.
