Sir Geoff would not get anywhere near this present Pommie set up mate. Too slow. Although i read he was dropped for scoring too slowly during a knock of 246 back in the 60's. DROPPED for scoring 246 ? Mate, back in the 90's any bloke would have been knighted and secured a place for life in the English team !!
Boycs is being realistic when he reckons you lot will not win the Ashes. There is plenty of juice left in the Aussie juggternaut yet- Warnie will have a field day on your late summer hardened wickets. Providing it stays DRY that is. I've heard you summer is rotten with rain. But then McGrath and Dizzy come into the reckoning. We will not be bowled out twice, i'm pretty confident. Harmison may have a couple of days in the sun- but lacks consistency. Giles, Hoggard and Flintoff haven't got the firepower to destroy us- Jones will never be the same since that appalling injury suffered over here. Batting ? Strauss will be found wanting outside off stick, Vaughn found wanting by the captaincy, Petersen will not get in the test side. This Ian Bell might be a decent prospect- at least he was picked when pretty young- how do you rate him over there ?
Verdict ? 3-1 to us of course. Good luck.

I doubt that it is going to stay dry, why are we starting the Ashes so late in the English summer ? We are almost bound to lose a few days to rain in September.
In my heart of hearts I think that if the touring side can get themselves sorted, then they will win. But I do think it is going to be much closer than it has been in previous years.
Neither the Autralian batting or bowling are looking fantastic at the moment, I'm surprised that you lost five wickets to the Banga Boys today. We were also lacking in penetration against Banga, but we did blow the Ozzy batting away at the start of the week.
If Vaughaun can find some form then I think we have a very strong batting line up, I agree that our bowling tends to work in fits and starts. Harmison and Flintoff are looking good though, Hoggy has yet to find his swing this season.
Well then, good strong batting, days lost to rain and bad light in late summer, a 1-0 victory either way ?

The Ozzies have had a shocker against Bangladesh - quite f&^%ng unbelievable really. Very poor form going into the ODI's. However, Oz are always slow starters strong finishers.
Re. "but we did blow the Ozzy batting away at the start of the week." I assume you refer to the 20/20. I have heard an analogy that puts that result into perspective. Taking form out of a 20/20 for a Test series is like Greg Norman beating Tiger Woods in a warm up game of Put-Put Golf prior to the US Open. There is no comparison
Poms do have a good team for the ODIs and Tests. ODIs I expect the poms to win. The Tests depend largely on Pontings Captaincy which is weak IMO and the Oz fielding which has been in decline since S Waugh retired.
Punter may be our Richie Richardson.

I think I was quite clearly in agreement with you Pat when I compared 20/20 to test cricket, we still enjoyed thrashing you though.

"...there are less and less children playing cricket each year..."
