Let me just say that it really sucks coming back to this place. I guarantee you won't want your vacation to end.

I checked out a copy of the Koran five years ago, partly to see if it would get anyone's attention, partly to see what it actually said. Got about a third of the way through it before giving up. There wasn't much grisly stuff in the parts I read -- in fact, the book showed more tolerance toward Christians, Jews, and a people called the Sabians, whoever they were, than I'd expected. But they were repetitious as hell. Muhammad is like St. Paul that way. I can't read that sort of material for too long. It makes my head spin...

For what it's worth, librarians hate the surveillance as much as we do. My best guess is that the notice is a sort of advance heads-up from the library staff, as they are not legally permitted to tell you at the time your own record is tapped by the FBI.

on the off chance that my library is tracking my reading habits, i've been checking out as many subversive-seeming materials as possible in the past few years.
interspersed between re-reading all the miss marple mysteries, i've been working my way through their teach-yourself-arabic tapes and books on weapons, the middle east, and nuclear stuff.
