Never heard of the guy, but I stopped paying attention to the "gallery crowd" a long time ago. They give space to crap like Hamsters Nests. Ugg. Couldn't get past page one of the article, and the "correction" about the reference to Burroughs...

Almost a tragedy, like everything else about him---almost. Years and tears ago I felt the same about my trust fund Maoist friends trying to 'liberate' Detroit auto-line workers. The only thing about the older' part is that fascination is replaced by the depth of waste. As for the Hamster's Nest----all that needed to be said there was done by the Dadaists----hello Marcel!

Never heard of the guy. But he doesn't quite come off as the good man his family and his friends are saying he was.
As for his drug use and how it related to his art, I don't know about him, but I know that most of the best music I've ever written predates the time I started drinking. Lord knows what I might have created had I stayed sober...

Honestly never heard of him. So I can't give an opinion on his works or style. But the story reminds me of something a radio show host has said about artists: most artists are tortured souls who feel much more deeply than others, thusly they fall into drugs to cope. He may be right, he may be wrong.
I've never tried writing while under the influence of anything. But if it were anything like my trying to walk while tipsy, it'd be a disaster.
