Gravatar Great post.

Keep it up.

Gravatar Very well said, no disagreement here.

My style at cons, I really get up in people's faces and show them the book, take them through it. I don't sit behind the table, I stand in front of it and call you over.

How do you see that in the "Present yourself" category? Honestly.

Gravatar Anyone who sits behind the table waiting for kids to come over and proclaim his genius deserves whatever response he gets.

Serious people are in front of their table (or at least standing up behind it) and using their massive Jedi powers to talk twenties out of passer-bys wallets.

Gravatar Excellent write-up. I plan on having a table at the next con I go to and this helps immensely.

Gravatar Really enjoyed this article. You hit the nail on the head. Keep up the good work!

Gravatar A lot of this is dead-on. The creepy factor is right. There's nothing like having to avoid peoples' tables (not to mention eye-contact) because you don't want them to burst out into tears when you "reject" them because you just don't have enough money for their work. or you think it's poorly done.

Look, we have so much time and so much money. I want to look at it and not feel bad for not buying it. There should be some sort of rule: No crying/begging for people to buy your book. That way everyone would try to look at everything without having to discern from afar based on posters/cover work whether to risk approaching the table.

Gravatar Thanks for the replies, everyone - I'm glad to see the feedback is so strong for material like this.

Jason, as long as I don't get the vibe that you're hustling me, standing in front of the table is fine. A great way to neutralize my "hustler sense" is to have a selection of books at your table and ask me a question or two to customize your pitch. If I think you're trying to give me the book you honestly think I'd like best, I'll appreciate it.

Gravatar My problem last year was the "garage sale" look of some tables..there were less this year, and there were some tables that were marginally comics related.

Geez people, put some effort into your presentations!

Gravatar Thanks for the props on my cover design, Sean... I'm fairly certain I gave you the shitty scrawlled-out signature on the cover, though, so email me out your mailing addy and I'll send out a sketch for you...

Gravatar Sweet, Stephen - you got a deal! Thanks!

I really liked Fragile Prophet #1, by the way - can you remind me, when does that series launch?
