Hell, I don't think I've ever voted for a candidate that I was really happy with; it's always been a matter of voting against the other guy.

Deb, I'm going to have to look at my Presidential ballot this year as "keeping the damned Democrat out of office."
I'm with BobG - I haven't voted for someone since the first time I voted for Reagan.
Both parties suck like a Dyson, but they have a death-grip on the levers of power, and I see no way at this time to dislodge them. As you've noted, the Libertarians, Greens, etc. are all worse.
And there's nowhere left for those of us who don't fit into society to go. Our "new frontier" is space, and those doors are closed.

Why did Jefferson, Washington, etc decide to fight? They did have a new frontier to escape to, no? They could have headed north/west/south?
How did they come to the decision the stand their ground instead of bugging out?
Was it favorable circumstance? What percentage of the colonists had their backs?
What percentage of the current populace would have ours if we tried to reclaim the levers of power(politically, not through strength of arms)?

I'm going to also vote to keep the damned Democrat out, like Kevin. Hillary and Obama are too evil on the issue of guns (ESPECIALLY Obama -- my God that man is nuts). But I do agree with you on the gay marriage/gay military issues. Social conservatives make my teeth itch. The one appealing aspect of the Libertarian party is that they want people to be left the hell alone.
It's too bad they're such nuts on foreign policy.

Guy, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
The Republicans took Congress in the early 90s on the force of "the contract with America." Small government, balanced budget, etc. As soon as they got into office - or shortly thereafter - they started spending like Democrats.
Vote Libertarian if you like the idea of open borders and isolationism. Vote Green if you like the idea of global communism controlling the economy. Vote Constitution Party if you like the idea of living under the Christian version of the Mullahs.
You want to take back the levers of power? Run for office - local to start with, or state at the most. Don't want to run, find a candidate you support - for mayor, for the state house - and work to get them elected. It will take a while, but that is where you have to start.

Sorry -- I'll be voting my conscience and when we get the greater evil, maybe it'll wake some folk up.
More people will be motivated to deal with a mad dog than a merely lost one. It's time for the greater evil and the even-greater reaction.

They fought because at least 1/3rd of the population was willing, able, and eager to fight alongside them.
Can you say that now? Honestly?

Roberta, the people who voted for Perot thought something like that. The people who continually vote for Nader feel that way too I am sure.
You are welcome to vote for whoever you chose, just don't expect it will make a big difference.
If the Democrats win the White House, and a seat or two in the Senate, you can expect higher taxes, gun registration, a new "assault weapons ban" and a host of other things. People will complain, but there won't be a major "sea change" in Washington. Just business as usual.

That's what I'm asking.
If you sit out the election you change nothing. If you do vote(for the greater or lesser evil), you probably change nothing. If you decide to run for office at a local level you might have a chance to change something _IF_ you can get elected on a platform that doesn't completely compromise any sort of libertarian principles.
Is there still a market for Classic Liberalism?
There was a Self-Defense meme running around the gunny sites a while back - Tam and Roberta both saying how they would fight for their lives.
So why lay down and die when your political lives are threatened?
