I'll do it with you! I never tought of it like that before. Always tought it was a weird Catholic thing to do! I'll pray for strength to get through it.

My boss is Catholic and takes Lent very seriously. He has cut all meat from his diet.(As he can not normally do without his red meat). Very big deal. He prays before each meal for strength and the knowledge to follow what God would have him to do. As a Cuban he is very Catholic, you know family tradition.
Oh you might wonder how I know what his prayer is....well he says it out loud!
Don't get me wrong...lent is a step in the right direction...but why would you give up something for 40 days knowing you will return to it after lent. Why not simply make a change...and pray for the discipline and self controll to substain from it. Why would want to choose a short term sacrifice over a life time change. Jesus is about change...the sacrifice has already been made!
Right, "Think." But it's not about giving up bad things. It's about setting aside the good things in our life, however harmless, as a sacrifice to honor God. Should we give up these things forever? I don't think so, not if they're acceptable.
This isn't about lifestyle change; it's about simple times of sacrifice.

Thanks for what you said Dave. Fastfood and soda, last I checked, was not condemed as a sin. Lent can be compared to fasting. It is a time of focus. Sin should be dealt with on a daily basis all of our lives.

Just food for thought. Lent is ment to be a symbolic guesture. It is used to show God, that you are a true believer. Like when Jesus said to the fishermen, "lLay down your nets, adn come follow me." Lent is ment to show God that you can give ANYTHING in your life up, but HIM. He is all that matters in life and everything else is just trimming. That in essence is what the true meaning of lent is all about.
