Dark? As in the Dark Tower? It is almost impossible to just explain. The Dark Tower series is a 7 book, 3800 page ordeal. I am on my last 650 pages.
it's like climbing Everest, really. Those who have done it are in a special kind of group. People on the outside don't understand. But this club has its own language, catch-phrases.
Okay, so it's nothing like climbing Everest. But in terms of lit-geekery (fans obsessing over details and discussing it exhaustively), it's right up there with Lord of the Rings.
That's why I refer to it as "the greatest series of books ever written (that doesn't concern hobbits)."

Wasn't there already a miniseries made on one of the books? The one about the super flu where most of the people died. I used to have the book, but it isn't in my library now. Wonder where it went, Trevor??? I know it had Flagg in it. Enlighten me to it's name Dave-Trev.
The Stand... and yes, Flagg is in it, because he's a crossover character in several of King's books.
The Stand is actually referenced at length, about halfway through the DT series. One of the alternate realities of the world they're travelling through. Trippy.

Look, if Peter Jackson can turn the Lord of The Rings, and unfilmable story according to the author, then this Dark Tower stuff would work just fine on the silver screen. You guys should step out from under your reading light and into a theater, and not just for the next Star Wars movie. Its not that film or novels are better than the other. Its realizing that they have qualities that other can't touch while still being able to intermingle. I just wanted to drop a little note and now look what you made me do. Use movie people don't begrudge you book people every time a new book comes out, so why can't we have movies that come from the books you read? Just let it go, you don't have to watch anything you don't want to. Have a nice day! Bang Bang!!

...except when it comes to King. King's fantasy books almost always make bad movies (exception being The Stand, which was 6 hours long). Part of the reason is that King can do things with words that aren't capable on screen. It's the whole "letting the reader fill in the blanks" thing. Things are scarier in your mind than they would be if you were shown them in visual form.
Plus, we're talking sheer length, too. Dark Tower is almost 3 1/2 times as long as LOTR.
I'm not hating on turning books into movies, as long as the essence of the book is well conveyed (such as LOTR). I'm just saying if you wait for the movie, instead of reading the book, you'll not only miss out on some of the best works of literature ever written (which won't ever be made into movies for one reason or another), but 97 times out of 100 you'll be watching an inferior version of the story.

Dang it! Well i have heard you are a good writer and i have read some of your stuff, you are good. i would like to read the books but have no time. i do remember Trev in highschool talk about them and he had read a couple. how about you read the books record it word for word and put it on a cd. then i could listen to it when i drive back and worth from where ever i may wonder and could hear the book and know the story.......i better find a fourth guy!!

Justin, remember Trev's 17th birthday when we tried to spank him? I was half again as big as Trev and I had the unpleasant task of holding those unreal legs of his. He about beat me to death without using his arms. Sorry, don't think Loondog can hold him by hisself
