i don't know, dude... TV shows get cancelled after a few eps sometimes... it'd have to be the type of thing where there is a guarenteed episode run for the entire season. As for special effects, are you sure? we're talking not only make-up effects, but visuals for the Thinny, the Low Men, the Pap, the Wolves, all of the cross-dimentional stuff, and eventually the Big Daddy of them all, the Crimson King. and you've seen the visuals on other King movies (like the purely awful "Langoliers"). it'd have to be better by far.
as for Walter's demise, yes, you'd expect more, but isn't it what he deserves though? what you find out is that for all of his tricks, he's really just a low-level baddie. Wormtongue with some slight of hand. So I think, though a bit of a letdown, it suits him.

one more thing: DT and LOTR cannot be compared fairly. two entirely different types of writing, and entirely different sub-genres of fantasy fiction.

The thinny would be easy, the low men you do in actual make-up, the wolves would be done similar to the Cylon Centurons in the new Battlestar (which I might say kick ....), and I have not got to the Crimson King yet. Dude, I have thought this through. It is a solid idea. Say it and I probably thought of it.

So, its perfectly natural for a writer to spend his whole life working on a piece of literature, for example LOTR. Then why can't we find some crazy director to make the filming of DT his/her life's work? How many years did LOTR take to make? 4 years? Here's the layout: Year 1: read the book (3800 PAGES!?) Year 2: cast characters (taking into account that new actors will be needed before the filming is finished). Year 3: Have cast members read the books (3800 PAGES!!).......... yadda yadda yadda... and now you have the worlds largest box set of a single story and the first ever director who commited to a lifes work in one story. Which brings up an important question. Is George Lucas a Star Wars lifer? How long did it take him to make six movies????
