Love that Mozart. I have sung that in a choir a few times now and love it!

*snicker* uh, yeah, actually. He's saved it to his hard drive as one of his top favorite emails of all time. He's never known me to use such, er, forceful language before (he's never seen any of my writings), and I only use my "Scathing Snape" mode when subbing for him. . . so he's never seen that side of me before, although he had heard rumours.
(I copied and pasted directly, removing only names, because I really didn't think I could top it. . .)
Yes, I do not like that song.
I do not like it short or long
I do not like it with a gong
I do not like it in a lurch
I do not like it in a Church
I do not like it here or there
I do not like it anywhere!

You're my hero. You've been tracked.
We are trying to rebuild our choir after the departure of our prior music director / liturgy director who had an affinity for those kinds of songs. You know... All are welcome... Sing a new Church. Never heard Faith of our FATHERS or Holy God we praise thy name.
But that's changing. We went from about 40 choir members to 6. We're rebuilding our choir and retooling our music with a music director who is liturgically aware (and a pastor who backs her up).
I'm blessed.
I wish I had the guts to tell our prior MD... Ummm... I hate to break it to you... I am decidedly not the bread of life, and I will not be raising you up any time soon.

. . . Well, sadly, such song are a staple of the congregational hymns at my church, but luckily I was pretty much raised in the choir loft, and we tend to sing classical stuff like Bach, Mozart, Handel, Pergolesi, Palestrina, etc. . .so for me, it usually balances out and I deal.
But there have been a series of things that happened recently that were really more irritating than usual, and then this just used up the last of my patience. Thankfully, our (choir) director is a guy with taste-- it was the liturgist or somebody who had this idea . . .*rolls eyes*. . .
Good luck on rebuilding the choir. Good music with good lyrics is neccessary for good Catholic liturgy. I don't necessarily mean the Bach and Handel (though those are always nice!)-- I just mean lyrics that don't offend and music that is at least a step above the "Pizza Hut" song from camp.
Oh, and thanks for the linkage! ^_^

You go girl!
Sadly, the state of music at my parish is abyssmal. I almost got sick when "Tis a Gift to be Simple" was sung as the recessional hymn recently. Imagine that paean to a dead-end, bizarro Prostestant sect being used in a Catholic Church.
