The album cover art did kind of startle me a bit because it was completely different from their other albums covers. It definitely left me slightly puzzled..
But as for the song, I liked it. It made harmonic sense (like it didn't sound 'bad') and the lyrics were a bit sad, which I kind of liked 
And I think that even if Coldplay has gotten a big 'hot-headed' as some people may think, they still write pretty decent songs compared to the hip-hop and rap crap we hear everyday on the radio.
I just hope Coldplay doesn't 'sell-out' like Nelly Furtado did, as well as many other artists who used to write at least half-decent, meaningful songs.
Sunny, I'm pretty sure that Coldplay will not sell-out like Nelly Furtado - they have so extremely little in common that's it's really not even worth mentioning them in the same sentence.
Anyway, am in LOVE with the new song. I reckon Coldplay are heading in the right direction with the new album - sort of going back to their roots while injecting something new and interesting to give it an edge. Bring it on, guys!

Liked it, but I agree on your point of view. I'm not listening to other stuff from them aswell, and I blame the lack of Coldplay music for the last 2 years.
I have to admit I wasn't expecting anything mind-blowing for the new album (and I consider myself a Coldplay fan...) but this song surprised me. I liked it. A lot!
I find it awesome that they're taking risks and new directions with their sound but still sound like Coldplay...
Still, it doesn't give me shivers as Parachutes once did.

I love 'Viva La Vida'. If it's a single, I hope the video will be big-budget, complete with marching bands and all.
I enjoyed the Viva la Vida single more, the string swells match the epic lyrics.
