Good luck with the hard drive. I really sympathize. I just went out and purchased another ext HD to back up the one with all of my music, because I stumbled across a few stories like yours. YIKES.
god, that's horrible, i lost all my precious babies last summer, had everything on a 500 gb ext hdd and i couldn't recover anything! Good luck!
I bet you'll get the stuff back if you go to a pro. BUT I sympathize because every time I have an itunes problem, I act as if someone has killed my cats. It's stressful... you are not alone. But again, thousands of MP3's just don't go "poof" and disappear - it's probably easily fixable.
Like you, I learned the hard way to back my shit up.

hey, ive been trolling your blog for a while but im very sorry to hear this news. when i was a freshman in college i dropped and broke my external hard drive that had all the music id ever downloaded or purchased since 6th grade, back in the early days of napster. it was devestating, and i found that it can cost hundreds of dollars for professional data repair. but hey, it might be worth it, depending on your financial situation. best of luck.
