If required, you can ban certain people from commenting on your blog. The reasoning behind this is yours alone, and it is suggested that you invest a little time in creating a commenting policy.

Additions:
You can add a ban based on either an IP range (which has three parts xx.xx.xx) or a specific IP address (which has four parts xx.xx.xx.xx).

Additions:
HaloScan can only ban users based on their IP address. You should be aware that many ISPs assign a user a random ('dynamic') IP address every time they login to start surfing the web, with that in mind it can be difficult to successfully have a permanent ban.

Jeev - do we want to host a commenting policy people can use?? I've got one I can rip - it's public domain anyway.
  • Sure sounds good.

Note: If you ban an IP range, you will ban everyone in that range, most likely people using the same ISP or from the same location. Ban IP ranges only in extreme circumstances.
  1. On the main HaloScan site, from the menu on the left, select Manage Comments.
  2. Select the Manage Bans tab, in the centre of the page.
  3. In the text box provided enter the IP Address or IP Range to ban.
  4. Click Add Ban.
  5. The message "IP(s) banned." is displayed at the top of the page, and the banned IP is added to the list.
