Teachers are saints - the last saints left in a world of clergy members, politicians, and business owners who continue to disappoint our expectations.
What happens when we realize that the last group of individuals to whom we look for moral guidance might actually be human?
Well, we might actually start to rely on ourselves.
Heaven forbid that happens!

Thanks for the mention--it never fails to double the traffic to my blog!

I think PERB will end up being a disaster no matter what. It always has been, and it always will be. What I'd like to know is why we need a 300 person negotiating committee and a highly paid negotiating team to land us in PERB.

What we need is one real leader.

As much as I'd rather not say it, I think I know where this is going. The PERB is going to recommend, in light of the current economic bust, either no raise or offer up a sixth class for us in exchange for a little more salary. In other words, we're all going to have to find ways to do less...

I found this to be very interesting and have to agree that I too was very jealous of Caroline. At the same time it did kind of remind me of my 2nd grade experience because I also had a teacher who let us come and help her out and when there was ever antoher group of students who wanted to join, I was very jealous of them, and I made sure that things went my way. I did this because I felt that this...

Well, one day when you're chancellor, you can follow Caroline's leadership style. Just remember how willing I was to give you helpful advice when you're dispensing the no-show jobs. I think I'd be very good at a no-show job, and can't wait to show what I've got.

I wanted to write something just like this on Monday, so it relieves me that I don't have to write another heart-wrenching post. I love doing what I do, but it sucks that we as teachers can't do more than what we already do. Thanks for writing this.

I love that people honestly thought that someone who was making as much money as Mike Bloomberg actually cares about how the rest of us are doing. What's worse is that we have a good 50,000 people who actually believed in Mike's brand of gloss and greed instead of Bill Thompson or any other of the mayoral candidates. The stats were all out of wack and the MTA, which he doesn't really ride, still s...

On the other hand, when the dot com boom was in full swing, city employees took zeroes, and I don't recall the tabloids being particularly outraged. It's always the pattern, the pattern, the pattern--that's why the contract sucks. This is the one solitary occasion in my memory when the pattern appears attractive. Denying it would go against everything we've been told for at least the quarter-ce...

No raises for teachers, I'm thinking. I mean, how can they with all of the bad budget news coming out? And our union leadership will doubtless say that we already got lots of raises in the past and to get one, they would have had to agree to more time....
