Not all spinosissima are pink - I've got a gorgeous one that is a double cream with black hips. I picked it up at the old-fashioned rose nursery at Trinity Farm in Otaki.

My goodness, all that delicious produce. I honestly don't know where you find the time.

The only gardening I have managed this past two weeks was with the weed-eater and the weed-sprayer :-(

Fortunately, before that, I laid a completely new bark garden, but that does not count beside your hurculean efforts.

Patrick,

I was growing Printanor, but I think I'll be back to Elephant garlic this winter. It's hard to find it in the shops so it's worth it although it doesn't seem quite as reliable.

Patrick, the rule of thumb in New Zealand is to plant garlic on the longest day and harvest it on the shortest. In practice I harvest when the tops start to wilt, which was a little later.

Sandra, I'm in Wellington, nice to see your blog too!!

Just found you through Patrick's blog. Great to find another NZ gardening blog. Whereabouts in NZ are you? I am in the wet west coast of the South Island.

You harvested your garlic already? I usually harvest mine at the end of July here in Holland, so would that be about the end of January for you? I guess it's only the difference of a couple of weeks, probably doesn't matter.

Did you grow any kind in particular?

I'm glad you don't get garlic rust, it can really be a problem and there is nothing you can really do about it. If you're lucky,
