I work in a parish and part of my job is sacramental prep. It has been tradition there for years that 1st confessions are done in the context of a Form II service. But the songs are straight from the book, there's no flapping paper, just a little reception afterwards and everyone is out the door. We ensure solmemnity, of course!

Father, I agree with what you've said about how the 83rd confession should seem just as valuable and joyous as the first. I find great peace in my heart after going to reconciliation.

I'm confident your penitents mean it when they say they like confessing to you. For my part, though, I do like a bit of spiritual direction (e.g., about how I can grow my prayer life, in practical ways, as a way...

Those who come to see me "on priestly business" (I like that phrase) will meet with me in the sitting room, which is shown in the pictures. The sitting room was my predecessor's office; he had his study upstairs, which is now my office (pictures will be up in a day or two).

I haven't really given any real thought to having the room painted. Currently, it's a wood paneling and I'm afraid to se

I agree, Mariana, but a confessional isn't always close by, and the Church does allow for confessions to be heard anyway. Clearly, though, the confessional is the preferred location.

The confessional is still the best place to confess. It is solemn and inside the church.

I was relieved that my first confession was like a Saturday afternoon confession because I was already nervous and anxious enough. Embellishment would have been worse. Unfortunately in my old diocese children went to their first confession AFTER their first holy communion.

Our parish has three priests, and each one goes about it a bit differently. One gives a challenging penance, for exampl...

So, will people who wish to see you on priestly business have to go upstairs to the office? If so, what about those people who find stairs difficult?

Are the pictures from the former priest's study or from the upstairs rooms?

Our priest has his office just inside the front door of the presbytery; it has a desk and chairs and a more comfortable seating area around the fireplace. His private

Interesting lists! With regards to List No. 11, I am glad that priests want to forget the sins being confessed in the confessional. I always make it sure to go to a priest for a confession outside my parish. My mother is close to my parish priest and I am scared he might accidentally tell my mother how sinful I am :-) (I know priest are not supposed to divulge such things, but what if, priests are...

Hi Father,

I never thought that a Parish Priest is so busy and hardworking! And all for the Glory of God! You inspire me today, Father.

Thanks!
