120 miles off shore ??

 Sounds like: LITTORAL waters !!

This is a job for an LCS !

Specifically, it is a mission for an LCS that costs less than $650,000,000 dollars. If I were C7th Fleet, I would be afraid to let a "Capital" ship like an LCS go anywhere near a skirmish between North and South Korea. Especially since their "main battery" is one 57mm gun, or a helo that can carry onl

I have an operational concern when it comes to SSBNs launching sats, which is that the first time a boomer opens a missile tube everyone in the area knows they're around. And when they launch everyone in the area will know exactly where they are.

Russia launches satellites from SSBNs, but not as part of a regular patrol. They know where they're launching from and what orbit they intend to hit

That's generally sensible enough, but what on earth are you talking about with Creigh Deeds? The man serves in the state senate, where his seat is his indefinitely. He won the special election in 2001 by a 2-1 margin, and hasn't had an opponent since. He squeaked past McDonnell in his district, even as he got creamed statewide. His district went 58-41 for Obama.

His statewide aspirations

I have to say that I find the CNO's answer deeply disappointing. The move of UAVs to N2/N6 confines the platform to specific missions. It's the Navy bureaucracy at its worst. UAVs are not solely intelligence/C4 platforms; they have the potential to replace and complement a variety of weapons platforms, both aerial and naval. The fighter-jockeys-turned-carrier-admirals don't particularly like this....

Does he delve into the military or police issue when dealing with the piracy problem? I know that Sri Lanka went after them militarily whereas Singapore dealt with it as a law enforcement matter. Where does Murphy stand on it? Or is that out of bounds?
