Congratulations on the new "fame" Julia! :)

It's also great that you're assisting these young college students figure out the course they need and/or want to take! :)

Although, I don't really get that whole class/grade hierarchy thing in Britain as it's completely different than here in the United States.

Far be it from me from discouraging people to contact admissions tutors directly but most universities do have detailed programme and module specifications available on-line. I would encourage prospective students to read these first, and then contact admissions tutors if they have any further queries.

... and I should add that whilst Keele does have an excellent palaeontologist, the curriculum...

I'd have to advise against Glasgow. While it is an excellent university and an excellent course it really isn't Palaeontology focused. About 1/4 of first and second year is about palaeo, none of third year and only a single module in fourth year.

Of course you do another 2 courses in 1st year and another 1 in second year - so you could saturate that part of your timetable with biology and zoolo...

They could do Dual Honours Geology and Biology at Keele (with the option of switching to major Biology or Geology or 4-yr M.Geoscience at the end of year 2 if their interests change/develop).

Bristol now has the 4 year palaeobiology MSci course which incorporates geology, biology and palaeo. I went through the Bristol Zoology program before moving downstairs to Geology for my PhD.

I think the *best* think to do is once you have a list of half a dozen or so, get the student to e-mail the admissions tutors directly and ask what they can offer. There is no harm in asking a direct quest...

Long before the Millennium when I was doing this Bristol did a Biology & Geology Joint Honours Degree. I don't know if they still do it, but there certainly were very strong links between the departments. Manchester also did the same thing.

If he's doing two sciences then UCL might take him for the Palaeobiology Msci/BSc. Doesn't hurt to ask the admissions guys.

Yes, I think "creatively annoying" is a good way to describe my GCSE group - they're curious about everything and they know they can get me off on a tangent if they sound enthusiastic enough!

We've got entire jars of pickled baby tortoises, frogs, salamanders, snakes etc. I would love to do some reptile dissections (and they're most definitely dead!). Maybe starting a lunchtime science club i

I had a knack for asking a question in my upper level history courses which could send the professor off on a half-hour tangent. I suspect that my professors thought me creatively annoying.

During an advance bio class in high school, my lab partner showed up with a disection project -- the large snapping turtle which had caused a flat tyre earlier in the morning. Turned out it was not actuall...
