scg, I think there have been overreactions all round. People started to attack KB, saying that she was not nice, have turned out not to be so nice themselves. Because whatever the whys and wherefores of who said what, there is genuine disagreement, it's not about manners. There simply is going to have to come a point when we fat people hold ourselves to higher standards of what we expect for oursel...

No, spacedcowgirl. I was intimidated and called a liar for making the same observations Kate did today. The stated reason seeming to be that I was insufficantly enthusiastic about the anti-Kell lynch mob. And still today, I learn that someone saying its "retarded" to be against WLS lauded as a moderate voice in the discussion. No, that's not right. And not getting that this is not right speak

But is there anytime when one is so non-plussed and unnable to mount an effective defense as when one is attacked about one's fatness? I didn't get it because so many of us are so smart so witty and yet we have really struggled to really impose ourselves on the (real) opposition, in spite of our talents. I felt that that must be because we are still getting out of their worldview, rather than put...

Indeed, the "shades of grey" thing is just a falsely polite way of attacking people you don't agree with. Instead of disagreeing directly, you insist they aren't seeing the shades of grey.

Last I checked, you could still see shades of grey while also seeing black and white. Indeed, without an understanding of what is black and white, the shades of grey become meaningless, lacking all context.

Well, Kate put up a post a couple of hours ago that explicitly makes the distinctions you refer to... that she can understand WHY someone would get WLS or attempt to lose weight, but cannot condone it as a choice that is likely to work or to be safe for the patient. I see no real inconsistency in the message over there, just an acknowledgment that these are difficult, wrenching decisions that peop...

I think we have a genuine disagreement here, between basically two sides, this is the problem with the 'shades of grey' argument it generates its own rage because it thinks it can connect with everyone, when in truth no-one can all time. Somebody once said, 'people see shades of grey because they can't properly see the black or the white!', it doesn't mean you're right. Obviously, it's a question

This is an excellent post, Brian, & I do agree with what you have said. And thanks for once again reminding us of the passion & the commitment of the Fat Underground & the wisdom of their words. I wish that we could all overcome our differences, stop arguing semantics, & work together for true fat liberation...NOT acceptance, which smacks of begging people not to kick us or kill us, but liberati

You know, I was taking the shit with a smile directed at me. But when someone else committed the crime of agreeing with me, they got accused of doing something they didn't even remotely do. And sadly they took that criticism personally and felt they must have done something to justify it. THAT horrified me. To see bullying like that work. And did it shock the bully into realizing what was wron...

No one said you don't have a right to be opposed to WLS. You can be opposed to whatever the hell you want, and some random person on the internet can disagree with you if THEY want.

Honestly? From what i've seen, people are more upset with you (or perhaps just confused) due to the way you've been acting. You disappeared a few weeks ago with a rather passive-aggressive statement, with no commen...
